Proverbs

  • I am Me!
'I am Me. In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it...I own everything about me: my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions, whether they be to others or myself. I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears. I own my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By doing so, I can love me and be friendly with all my parts. I know there are aspects about myself that I do not know ...but as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and ways to find out more about me. However I look and sound, whatever I say and do and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me. If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought and felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that which Idiscarded. I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me. I own me, and therefore, I can engineer me. I am me and I am Okay.' --Virginia Satir
  • ~~~Tell IT!~~~
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
  • (~~GOOD CHARACTER~~)
Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are, to some extent, a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece--by thought, choice, courage, and determination.--J. Luther
  • (~~IN A STILL, SMALL VOICE~~)
Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praise her in the gates. ************************
  • (~~MAKE THIS DAY COUNT!~~)
If one advances confidently in the direction of her dreams and endeavors to live the life she has imaGINA'd, she will meet with success unexpected in common hours. (Thoreau)

Pics: A Ton Style, and a whole lot of it. You've never seen anything quite like this before.

Gina is the mastermind behind the fashion-tabulous, poetic blog called, "Awed." Her photo album displays an array of original, creative collections which are sure to provide inspiration and motivation.

She ardently tests the boundaries of crochet with a conglomerate of updated generational styles, from early 1910's-esque high waistline, decorative boutique dresses to 1950's matching secretarial jacket and skirt combinations to modern reconstructed, abstract apparel. Interspliced amongst those are several designs featuring bold, afro-centric patterns. All of her designs showcase an attention to detail.

With a flaire for the unorthodox, Gina's styles are haute, haute, haute!

A quote--what? not appropriate in the title spot. Look, I got 17 minutes left bef the lib closes---oooh, whoppee, they gave me a lib card, they gv me a lib cd for this county....huh, oh get back to "the quote"

"You will make it because you are very resourceful."

ahhhh, I needed that.  I knew it, but it's good to hear a total stranger tell you that.

ka-ching: deposits in my strengthening bank account so I won't default on payments to myself....

Yesterday's resourcefulness:

an apptment for my pets for Tuesday (1 mixed lab, 2 cats) for free shelter as long as needed; facility "No More Homeless Pets Atlanta" They'll be re-vac'ed and "fixed"

hus's interview--stayed in the area and hit a local mall and walked, chewed gum and crocheted.  Did I trip over the yarn?  probably but I step on, ha.  Had a young fellow ask me to make him a Jamaician hat--yellow, blk and green.  First order while I was walking, chewing, crocheting.  Then I wore the quickie beaded shawl out of the mall--uh huh, finished it!  I started it in the car on the way to his interview.  Huh, nope I wasn't driving and it took 45 mins and I put another 1 hr into it.

Had folks talking to me about my crocheting--I'll have to get some quickie business cards made up with my cell number.  Oh, so much to get done yet, smile.

Met a very sweet lady in Walmart who decorates her house with--did you say 10,000 lights?!--for the holidays.  She also dresses up as Mrs. Claus.  What a sweetie and then tells me as I am leaving "Did I not say I like hugs"? yikes, sounded like me; scary! ha But what a joy--children and I hugged her and her mom.

Met a nice lady in the Atlanta regional lib. who overhead I spoke Chinese and carried on a convo with me.  I am so glad I inspired her that there are folks who want more and do more than the "same-o, same-o".

Today's resourcefulness:

(that I can remember)

Salvation Army--free food and voucher for clothing (got to use the voucher next wk since I was in the neighborhood for Red Cross)

Red Cross--ss # for one child, food stamps

yeah, I went ahead and did it.  Can't eat--chew on my pride.  I have to look at it this way: we are evacuees--or remember my word "flee-ee" which I used on a man who was "interviewing" me, ha.

Gift card from Walmart (not a bad amount either.  Can definitely use that, nah, I won't use it all up on yarn, ha)

Got a new library card for this county.

what else?  look, I don't know; I am just walking it all out--sometimes, moment by moment.

Learning the city, fer sure!  Resourcefulness to the max.

I crocheted while I was waiting in Red Cross and spoke with people.  Tomorrow, I hope to sport my new denim, spangled bag with fun fur and incredible ribbon as fringes.  Looking fab! I just wish I knew how to post pictures on a public computer.

Thanks for all your comments!!!!!!

Another day in the life of a MS evacuee/flee-ee who is glad for life....amen

September 28, 2005

Um, hi, excuse me but do you happen to know why the computer's mouse sticks?

"Is it me?  Is this how you treat your guests?"

They burst out laughing!

(sheepish)  We put in a request for that over a week ago and no, we usually give our guests the best....

ahem.

I am in Gwinnett County, outside of Atlanta where I can't use my lib card here.  But I am a Guest and therefore I can as long as I'd like.  cool

I am sooo very busy these days or moments that sometimes if I don't write down my happenings, they escape me.  It is very good tho...oh, Hubby Dear has a 2pm appt for a job tomorrow.  All right now!

He went to the Job Fair and there was quite some interest in his skills--proud of him!

2 cute blog titles:

expirationdates

Tomorrow Could Be Boring**

**"Not" (ed., my two cents' worth)

Yesterday, got my youngest daughter's tooth looked after, for free.  Another generous outpouring for us "victims", er, evacuees or I'd would like to add "flee-ee"

yeah, that's cute.

I almost put down on a sewing machine at Walmart today...(yipee, I found a local Walmart, 10 mins from me)  I am dreaming of material--I was at this awesome African shoppe (Atlanta has a huge African population; I had quite a few pals from Nigeria when I was in college) that I just got to swooning:  such beauty, such culture and I gotta contribute, I gotta contribute

slap!

Oh, I'm ok.  owww. Next time, throw some water on me, all right?!  I'm still from New York and we is craaazy, ha!

Thanks Stacey and Trina for your kind words/"gestures".  I really believe I am doing a-o.k.  I am learning the city thru and thru since I am heading over here or over there for appts and such.

We still need a home but thanks to the generosity of folks, we can stay up to 30 days at this hotel.  Now, this one is "da bomb"  I feel like royalty, almost, smile.

I added about 6 braids this morning and 3 were streaked with red.  I hear Atlanta is the "hair capitol" so it'll be fun to go to the various hair shows they have and wear a hair outfit or 2.  What, you don't think I won't. "You don't know me very well"--like my Tweetie Bird imitation? Or is it another cartoon character.

This is such an alive place that I can't wait to get in da mix--it's coming; I can feel it!

There's a Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Hancock Fabrics all within 15 minutes from me.  Now, tell me, I'm not gonna have a blast.

uh-uh, I have 10 minutes left on this other computer--this mouse doesn't stick.

Hopefully I'll be back....

I got my prepaid phone reactivated and now tadah! Hubby has a phone with a local number.  I got a phone and he has one--what joy, well...I am doing a silly dance right now.  Hey, where's my webcam, ha.  My crochet-cam is on the blink.

Keep the prayers coming--we need 'em and THANKS!!

aaaah, they're so sweet here--extended my computer time for 30 more minutes.  Now, that's how to treat a Guest.

Well, well, I made it back for a second day....don't that beat all?!

My oldest daughter is timing me here at the library--I should have told her 20 minutes instead of 10...whatcha going do?  I have children that only have time that's spent on them.

Well, I am trying to wind down from a busy and pretty day today--I feel pretty, oh so pretty.  Myself, Jami and Jasmine all got our hair done--I love it!  Such pampering!  Unity Beauty Shop--hey ladies, thanx for making me look fab....

Then I had an appt for free food and clothing at a church...I feel blessed about that...

Then we headed on over to 2 malls to check it out.  Not much drama, which I love.  This one shop had the neatest designs--Barami--and the designer is suppose to be in town this upcoming Saturday.

There's a Home Show this Sat. also--what to do, what to do?  nah, what to wear?  what to wear? ha

what to design?  what to design?

what are you typing, and why keep typing the mind alive?  Because I feel soooo good being back online.

Hey Erica dear, thanks for the comment--I is in Atlanta....check out my southern accent, not!

Things are hopping and I am gonna check out the "hot spots"---ya know the places to see and be seen in, ha.

I am waking up from my long nightmare, smile, in MS, ha.  An urban crochet princess living in the deep, deep, deep South.  But I'm awake, wide awake; now to just keep dousing myself with cold water, ha.

People are feeling my designs so I just gotta get places to get it out there on display...

Tomorrow's a big job fair....

sketching designs--jt gotta figure out how to post.

Earlier for lunch, we ate at a Chinese rest. and I spoke some Chinese--blown them away, ha.  I had Chinese for 3 years in high school.  If I could find someone who's willing to teach me, I'd like to get back into it more regularly.  As with anything, practice, practice!

My Awed album has had 26,239 views and I so appreciate that and my other 2 recent albums have pretty good hits also. It makes me feel proud that you like viewing my work. There'll be more to come but right at this season, there's a PostHurricane event to get thru....successfully.

Hmmm, a year ago...

Tomorrow, we leave here for GA. New horizons await...

An earlier poem at about 6am

I'm breathing
but can this storm
be calmed to a
whisper?
cyclical flailings
--Gina Renay 9/19/05

He knows it all--the winding path
the sky o'ercast and grey
the steepness of the moutainside
the roughness of the way.
He knows it all--the haunting fears
the doubtings that distress
the wand'rings and perplexities
and all the strain and stress.
He knows it all--each troubled thought
each anxious wave of care
and every burden, every grief
or cross that thou dost bear.
He knows it all--thy weight of woe
thine often tear-dimmed eye
the stabbing pain, the slow dull ache
and sorrow's broken cry.
He knows it all--but His to choose
and thine to take His choice!
He knows it all! He planned it so!
then trust Him and rejoice.

Whisperings...of a Nomad (Still "not mad")

procession
to get a relief check
I being a first timer
listen to the
cadence/chorus
of advice
unheeded
flapping lips
subjects varied
perspective wide
I alone am silent
and yet
too embarrassed
to talk to myself
out loud

The Thing I Feared Has Come Upon Me
full moon
shining light
cover of darkness
crisp night
soon the sun
will arise
with healing on the wings
yet heat on the brow
cover of briteness
but I got my hat
packed
heated or fretted irritability?
must I already
experience
discomfort
to come

i may hang in there
to 8am
see better @ sunrise
night dancing away
slow paced

Just a quickie post to say that yesterday was my last day as founder of the local Creative Crochet Club--tears and sadness were in order....but get this: Nina, loyal member and pal will continue it as long as folks are interested and 2.
Brittney, 6th grader, learned to crochet!!!! I didn't think I had it in me to teach that I was shaking since sharing Katrina's devastation was still a shock for me and will be for yet more time to come that to come out of it for someone to teach seemed to be an ordeal. I even tried to "pass the buck" but no go...and she of so wanted to learn. Well, we had an hour or so left of the meeting but lo and behold, my hands steadied and Brittney learned!! I am so glad that in the midst of my pain and struggling that my creative, teaching side came shining thru.
I will miss so many people here--I've been told by several that I "have been an asset to the community!!!"
What a joy to hear and know!
Well, it's a short post and as for the aftermath of Katrina, it is now 18 days out of the trenches....
Thank you ladies for your comments!!!!!

Happy, happy 20th anniversary to us!

Just a quickie bloggie post--see the title, that's us! Still surviving, striving, vibing....
Didn't get a chance to celebrate--perhaps later, much later, but these are unusual times for us right now....
I'm just exhausted in mind and spirit but it'll get better--there's still light in the clearing up ahead, if I keep walking towards...
We have times with the children but not too much to ourselves rt now--adults gotta be tough, says who? I am glad we are together and healthy now.
There are alot of good things that have been happening but a part of me is in a fog, so excuse the gloom but I'll be bk to my ole self soon....
So much to be thankful for: haven of friends and support, food, water, internet (SMILE), a car--my oldest daughter and I laughed for a good 20 minutes!!!! Now, tell me I/we didn't need that, glorious and I don't even recall what we laughed about, but it sure was hilarious and me without my tape recorder, ha
Hubby is
a good man!
and I am a strong woman
we will
yes, we will....

Clicking my heels--ruby red shoes destroyed in the flood--"there's no place like a new home, there's no place like a new home"

That'll be my windsong for the moment--we'll have to find a new place to live.
We have spent yesterday clearing out 50% of our home and hopefully finish up the rest today. It's not an easy task; altho I nvr liked living here in this state (not many opportunities for a wild and crazy gal from New York living in the deep, deep South--too deep it seems at times.) Actually, I shouldn't complain for I have made a name here: you really stand out if you're different but I am bored--on to a new adventure already! Dorothy, can I borrow your shoes? and TinMan, your heart: I got Soul! and I'm Superbad, hey
Missed a day or 2--I'm exhausted in heart and mind now, but there's a clearing up ahead, far, far ahead, it seems. Just passing thru, not staying, thru.
Found a new (to me) community over at livejournal. Well, they gave a shoutout to me (smile), but it's cool nonetheless

Also, this is very interesting. Blog title: Survival of New Orleans

It's 3:10 cst and I nd to go back to sleep. I thought I would've posted for the 12th but got sidetracked reading my mail and such.

Thanks to all who continually uphold me in prayer and wellwishes; I appreciate you!!!!!

I am tired yall but there'll be a harvest from this pain....

"There's no place like a new home, there's no place like a new home"

p.s. Mail has started running again since the hurricane struck and can drink the water now.... whoopie doo

Yarnie is suffering also--to see her cousins and neighbors thrown out on the heap pile has caused her to shutdown for a time now.

There, there Yarnie I KNOW your pain....
only too well.

Doing fine

I should be going to bed but alas I am a nut so well, I'm here to blog, about? eh, fingers type. Perhaps it'll be interesting, perhaps not. What's great is I can always draft and/or erase, whatever--

Oh, I went to AL to return some lib bks due today. Unfortunately, I have some books that were damaged by the storm. They were understanding--obviously I'm not the only one--and gave me more time to look for the books and if I can find them, to return them as is. hmmm. What got me on this "chain of thought" (hey, cute blog title, ya think? Has it bn taken?) is earlier in this paragraph the word "whatever"--I picked up this book "The Road to Whatever" Middle Class Culture and the Crisis of Adolescence...it looks like an interesting read.
"This book will worry you and make you think hard about the collapse of a caring environment in America. Drawing on the vivid firsthand accounts of adolescents themselves, Elliott Currie shows us how the harsh cultural and institutional environment even of the American mainstream leads to the punishing neglect of our children."--Frances Fox Piven

I have been crocheting alot and perhaps I'll post something else shortly.

Hubby worked to clear some of the debris today for 3 hours....I got some more items out of the house. It felt ok. I/WE have a wonderful place we are staying at with supportive friends so I am in, as they say, the "restorative process".

I have been joying in the creative process--my fos. Yes, finished objects NOT flying objects! Hookie and Yarnie have been behaving themselves! Pattern-y still thinks I'm "strange"

Cute blog titles I came across today:
Charm Bracelet
Dances with Yarn

Well, I am thankful for today--the kids were next door all day with the neighbor's child. I travelled out of state and saw homes, intact...The people here don't seem affected at all; I was a tourist, smile.

I am a survivor....
